Emmy Nominations 2021: The Pitt, Hacks, Pluribus, Widow’s Bay Lead

Emmy nomination day was a huge success for some of our favorite shows this year. HBO Max’s medical drama series “The Pitt” came out on top with an impressive 25 nominations, including outstanding drama and 13 acting nods, with star Noah Wyle nominated for lead actor. This was a significant increase from last year, when the show received 13 nominations.

Following closely behind was another HBO Max hit, “Hacks,” with 24 nominations for its fifth season, setting a new record for the most nominations ever for a comedy series. Star Jean Smart, who plays a lead role in the show, is now in line to potentially win her fifth Emmy for “Hacks” and her eighth overall, which would tie her for the actress with the most Emmy acting wins in history.

Apple TV also saw success with the horror comedy “Widow’s Bay,” which earned 19 nominations, and the drama series “Pluribus,” which received 18 nominations. Netflix’s limited/anthology series “Beef” also made a strong showing with 16 nominations.

On the broadcast network side, NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” led with 11 nominations.

Thanks to the continued success of “The Pitt,” “Hacks,” and “DTF St. Louis” (which received 13 nominations), HBO Max dominated this year’s nominations, with approximately 122 in total. This is slightly down from last year’s 142 nominations, which had been a record for the Warner Bros. Discovery outlet.

NBC and Peacock will be broadcasting this year’s Emmy Awards, which are set to air live from L.A. Live’s Peacock Theatre on Monday, September 14 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. (NBC moved the Emmys to Monday this year for the broadcast).
