Himesh Patel Optimistic about ‘The X-Files’ Revival
Nothing is a sure thing in Hollywood these days. Hulu decided not to move forward with the highly-anticipated Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel series, despite involving Oscar winner Chloé Zhao. Now, another Hulu project tackling a classic series and backed by another Oscar winner is awaiting its destiny: Ryan Coogler’s take on The X-Files. With its pilot now in the can, actor Himesh Patel, one of its stars along with Danielle Deadwyler, appears cautiously hopeful about what’s to come. Patel didn’t spill any plot details in his recent chat with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast but did express a real enthusiasm for what’s been put together, saying: “It was very, very special, and we await a decision, of course. But all I can tell you is that I had an incredible time.” Although Patel wasn’t an avid watcher when The X-Files first aired in 1993 (he was born in 1990), his mother was a big fan who shared details about episodes with him over the years. Patel acknowledges the significance of The X-Files in shaping pop culture, later commenting: “You really do come to understand the responsibility of it and the power of it as a sort of world.” While Patel remained tight-lipped about specific plotlines, he noted that there was a strong alignment among Ryan Coogler and the entire team, along with himself and Danielle, in valuing depth and meaningful context in the storytelling. Patel also mentioned that the team under Coogler’s direction believes in the intelligence of the audience and is dedicated to offering a rich and intricate viewing experience. He remains vague on the specifics, hinting at a character stance within the believer-skeptic spectrum. The jury’s still out on whether Coogler’s version of The X-Files will make it onto our screens, but fans of the series are eagerly waiting in anticipation.
