Discord App Now Available on Quest for Streaming

Discord is now available as a 2D app on Meta Quest headsets, bringing exciting new features for VR enthusiasts. This app supports streaming and even comes with a month of Nitro, but it’s currently facing some technical issues. Meta first announced this collaboration with Discord during its Connect 2025 conference last September. In December, they introduced the option to link your Discord account to your Meta account so you can let your friends know which VR game you’re playing. Now, the Discord app for Quest is officially live on the Meta Horizon Store, making it easier than ever to stay connected while immersed in virtual worlds.

With the Discord app, you can engage in text and voice chats, watch friends’ livestreams, and stream your own VR perspective directly to your friends. Previously, this required a cumbersome workaround of casting your Quest’s view to a PC browser and using the desktop Discord version. But now, with the standalone app, it’s much more seamless. You can also link your Meta account to Discord and until September 30, receive a month of Nitro for access to premium features like HD streaming and larger file uploads.

However, the current Discord app for Quest does have some glitches. It has received a 3-star rating on the Meta Horizon Store due to reports of crashes during VR gameplay and other bugs. Some users have experienced issues with the streaming feature causing crashes in games like Asgard’s Wrath 2 and TMNT: Empire City. It seems that the app might be demanding a lot of RAM, potentially pushing Quest 3’s 8GB to its limit.

Despite these challenges, it’s promising to see Meta and Discord working to enhance the app. There are signs of deeper integration between platforms, with the possibility of joining Quest multiplayer sessions from Discord on the horizon. While there may be some rough patches to navigate, the future looks bright for Discord on Quest as these issues are ironed out.
