Major Crackdown on Illegal World Cup Game Streaming Sites

Recently, online piracy and illegal streaming of the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been under scrutiny and facing major crackdowns. It’s no surprise that with the World Cup being such a popular event, many streaming sites are being shut down for illegally broadcasting the games.

According to reports from Awful Announcing, the Trustworthy Accountability Group (TAG), an organization that fights ad-related crime, has taken down nearly 1,400 sites that were illegally streaming the World Cup. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Justice has announced the closure of 400 sites involved in illegal World Cup streaming.

TAG’s COO, Rachel Nyswander Thomas, mentioned that events like the World Cup are often targeted by criminals looking to steal ad revenue through illegal streaming. The Department of Justice, working with organizations like FIFA, Warner Bros., and beIN Media, has shut down servers and domains in various countries like Peru, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Poland, and Colombia.

While efforts to curb illegal streaming are ongoing, it’s challenging because new sites quickly pop up to replace those that are shut down. As long as there’s a demand for easy access to content, online piracy will continue to be a tempting option for some viewers.
