NASCAR Qualifying Sets Lineup for Sunday Race at Naval Base Coronado

Qualifying is all set for the NASCAR Cup Series debut at Naval Base Coronado, right in the heart of San Diego. The stellar Shane van Gisbergen claimed the top spot in qualifying and will share the front row with Carson Hocevar come Sunday’s race. With six wins in the last seven Cup Series road-course races, SVG clocked in at an average speed of 90.809 mph on the 3.4-mile street course, just edging out Hocevar.

Despite this being a new version of the Coronado street course, the area has a history with road-racing, having hosted the Coronado Speed Festival from 1997 to 2016 on a 1.7-mile street track. The Mazda MX-5 Cup Series and Stadium Super Trucks have also taken on this island course in past years.

The upcoming race, the Anduril 250, marks the 17th race in the 2026 Cup Series calendar and the final of five races to be streamed on Amazon’s Prime Video. Following this event, NASCAR heads north to Sonoma for another California road course event, kicking off a five-week racing block on TNT.

After that, the regular season wraps up on August 29th at Daytona, with diverse ovals making up the remainder of the scheduled races. As we gear up for the exciting Naval Base Coronado race, here’s a look at the lineup for Sunday:
