CAKE Teams Up with TV Asahi for Doraemon Licensing Deal
CAKE and TV Asahi have made a big announcement regarding the beloved anime series Doraemon, which has been captivating audiences for over 55 years. This international partnership will see CAKE take the lead on distributing the iconic animation catalog in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and EMEA, with the exception of Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Turkey. In addition, they will be creating a new English-language version of Doraemon to introduce this timeless Japanese classic to new viewers.
For those who might not be familiar, Doraemon follows the adventures of a time-traveling cat-type robot who assists Nobita, a lovable but clumsy young boy. Using a variety of futuristic gadgets from his four-dimensional pocket, Doraemon helps Nobita navigate the challenges of childhood and school life, all while embarking on exciting sci-fi escapades and heartwarming tales. The series is known for its enduring humor and themes of problem-solving, friendship, and emotional connection.
Originally created as a manga by FUJIKO F FUJIO in 1970, Doraemon has grown into a multimedia powerhouse. With over 300 million comic books sold worldwide, more than 1300 episodes dominating TV ratings, and a strong presence in consumer products, Doraemon’s popularity knows no bounds. The series has also seen success on the big screen, with a hit feature film released annually. Garnering over a cumulative audience of 100 million viewers and broadcast in over 70 countries, Doraemon has become the top Japanese film franchise of all time, transcending borders and captivating audiences of all ages.
