Tyra Banks Files Lawsuit Against Netflix: Alleges Defamation in ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Documentary

Tyra Banks recently filed a defamation lawsuit against Netflix and the directors of the docuseries “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model.” In the lawsuit, Banks claimed that the producers edited her 3 ½ hour interview down to just 16 minutes, creating a false narrative that didn’t reflect what she actually expressed.

The lawsuit specifically mentions that Banks accepted responsibility for some of the show’s controversial decisions, but this accountability was edited out. She argued that the editing was misleading and defamatory. Banks is seeking damages in the lawsuit against Netflix, the directors, and EverWonder Studio, and has also requested an injunction to prevent the use of her image in connection with the docuseries’ soundtrack.

According to Banks’ lawyers, the producers used selective editing and manipulation to suggest that Banks allowed a contestant to be sexually assaulted on the show for ratings. The lawsuit states that Banks hadn’t been informed about these accusations during the interviews and wasn’t given the opportunity to respond. Netflix and EverWonder allegedly denied Banks’ request to review the full footage of her interviews before the docuseries was released.

Despite Banks’ efforts to resolve the matter directly with Netflix and the producers, her lawyers claim those efforts were refused, leading to the lawsuit. The public response to the docuseries’ allegations has been harsh, with Banks facing significant backlash even in unrelated business endeavors like her ice cream shop in Australia.

The lawsuit highlights a clash between Banks’ version of events and the portrayal in the docuseries, pointing to issues with editing, lack of fact-checking, and the involvement of judges who allegedly hold grudges against Banks. This legal action aims to address the accusations and provide Banks with a chance to respond.
