Heated Rivalry and “Widow’s Bay” receive top TCA nominations
This year’s Television Critics Association Awards have some stiff competition with standout shows like HBO Max’s “Heated Rivalry” and “Industry,” along with Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay” leading the pack. With five nominations each, these series are making waves with critics and viewers alike.
Not to be outdone, other popular shows like HBO Max’s “Hacks” and “The Pitt” and Apple TV’s “Pluribus” are hot on their trails, each boasting four nominations. HBO’s “The Comeback” and Apple TV’s “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” and “Shrinking” also scored well with three nominations each.
One of the most talked-about nominees, “Heated Rivalry,” has caught attention for its Emmy nomination eligibility. Interestingly, the show is not eligible for Emmys due to its ownership structure – HBO Max only licenses the title from Canada’s Crave. While HBO could potentially change this by becoming a co-producer, the network has stated they currently have no plans to do so.
This year’s TCA Awards will see fierce competition in categories like Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Comedy, Drama, Movies, Miniseries, and Specials, as well as Individual Achievement in Drama and Comedy. Notable omissions like “The Bear,” “The Diplomat,” and “Only Murders in the Building” are conspicuous in their absence.
While this year’s TCA Awards ceremony won’t be in person, the winners will be announced ahead of the Emmy nominations later this summer. It’s clear that the television landscape is more exciting and diverse than ever, with standout performances and innovative storytelling across various platforms. Let the countdown to the winners’ announcement begin!
