Hulu Orders Pilot for ‘The Cable Guy’ Series with Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson

Hulu seems to be reviving ‘The Cable Guy’, the movie that hit screens three decades back. They’ve greenlit a pilot for a new series featuring Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson, so get ready for some fresh entertainment on the horizon.

Now, don’t expect this to be just a rehashed version of the original. The creators are taking a Fargo-like approach, aiming to pay homage to the cult classic rather than simply redoing it. It’s going to be interesting to see how they bring the spirit of the 1996 film into this new iteration.

The pilot is set to star Wayans Jr. and Johnson, both familiar faces from New Girl, who will also serve as executive producers. The show is being produced by Sony Pictures Television, headed by the talented team of Rob Rosell from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, along with Joe Piarulli and Luan Thomas from Cobra Kai. And of course, Wayans Jr. and Johnson will be taking on the roles of Steven Stephens and Chip Douglas, originally played by Matthew Broderick and Jim Carrey in the movie.

So, what’s the series all about? Picture this: in a world dominated by endless streaming and algorithms, an old-school cable technician named Chip Douglas (played by Johnson) leads a solitary life until a call from Steven Stephens (Wayans Jr.) brings back a childhood connection. As they reignite their friendship, things seem to be going well, until Chip’s eagerness starts to border on obsession. Sounds like things are about to get intense!
