Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. to Star in Comedy Pilot “The Cable Guy” for Hulu

Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr., beloved co-stars from the show New Girl, are teaming up for a new comedy series on Hulu. The show is currently untitled and is inspired by the Jim Carrey movie, The Cable Guy. Both Johnson and Wayans will not only star in the series but also serve as executive producers. The story follows old-school cable technician Chip Douglas, played by Johnson, who reconnects with a childhood friend, Steven Stephens (Wayans Jr.), when he comes to turn his cable back on. The show explores the darker and more absurd side of modern male friendship, drawing inspiration from the original film but not a direct remake.

The pilot episode is being written by Rob Rosell from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, along with Joe Piarulli and Luan Thomas from Cobra Kai. The creators of the show are big fans of The Cable Guy movie and aim to honor it by creating a series inspired by its essence rather than remaking it. The show will be produced by Sony Pictures Television and promises to bring a fresh take on the themes of friendship and obsession in the digital age. Disney, the parent company of Hulu, is overseeing the project.

So get ready for some laughs and a fresh take on male friendship in the age of streaming with Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. at the helm of this exciting new comedy series.
