The Devil Wears Prada 2 Review: Stylish, Nostalgic, and Empty
I recently had the chance to catch The Devil Wears Prada 2, and I have to say, it left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. The movie starts off on an interesting note, exploring the impact of social media on the fashion industry, but it fails to fully dive into this storyline. Instead, the film introduces multiple plotlines that either fizzle out or are abandoned altogether by the end.
Emily Charlton doesn’t quite hit the mark as a compelling antagonist, and many of the returning characters seem to be stuck in the same old patterns without much development. This lack of evolution in the characters takes away from the overall storytelling experience.
One of the biggest issues I had with the movie was its pacing. The constant shifts in locations from scene to scene made it hard to keep up with the story, giving the film a disjointed feel. It’s almost as if the writers had too many ideas and lost sight of the movie’s core message.
While the film does boast stunning visuals, it falls short in terms of storytelling and focus. It seems more like a made-for-streaming sequel rather than a cinematic event. The performances from Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are solid, but no one truly shines in this installment. I found Justin Theroux’s performance to be a bit off, and it felt like he was added just for name recognition.
The original Devil Wears Prada struck a perfect balance between drama and charm, with a strong narrative at its core. Unfortunately, the sequel misses the mark on exploring the impact of social media on the fashion world and fails to fully commit to its themes.
While it’s nice to see the familiar faces back on screen, the lackluster storytelling and direction make The Devil Wears Prada 2 one of the biggest letdowns for me this year.
