Hulu Shutdown: Official Update on Future with Disney+
g market, providing viewers with access to popular TV shows from the late 2000s on digital platforms like computers. However, as streaming services became more popular than traditional TV, Hulu struggled to remain relevant. When Disney acquired Hulu in 2019, questions arose about the platform’s future, especially with Disney focusing on its own streaming service, Disney+. In the early 2020s, Hulu catered to more adult content, while Disney+ remained family-friendly. Now, Disney is merging Hulu into Disney+, with a unified streaming platform set to roll out in 2026. Subscribers who bundle Disney+ and Hulu services can now sync their profiles, including viewing history and recommendations, in one profile within the Disney+ app.
Hulu subscribers can log in to Disney+ with their Hulu credentials, gaining access to the entire Hulu library and a selection of Disney+ and ESPN content. The goal is to introduce new subscribers to the bundled offerings available. This integration process began in 2022 when Disney introduced mature content to Disney+ and allowed brands like Marvel to produce R-rated content such as Deadpool & Wolverine. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed plans to fully integrate Hulu into Disney+, offering a diverse range of entertainment content in one app.
While there are currently no plans to discontinue the Hulu app, the full integration with Disney+ suggests that Hulu may eventually be phased out. Users are encouraged to start integrating their Hulu and Disney+ profiles now.
