Michael Jackson Documentary: Exploring Child Molestation Trial
A new three-part docuseries called “Michael Jackson: The Verdict” is coming to Netflix on June 3. This series delves into the explosive 2005 trial of Michael Jackson, exploring the charges of child molestation brought against him, the trial itself, and the media frenzy that surrounded it all. Viewers can expect to hear from key figures involved in the trial, such as jurors, witnesses, accusers, and defenders, providing a comprehensive look at both the prosecution and defense sides of the case. Even though Jackson was acquitted of all charges, interest in his legal battles has persisted long after his passing in 2009.
Directed by Nick Green and executive produced by Fiona Stourton, the documentary team shared with Netflix’s Tudum that they felt the time was right to revisit this trial and the lingering questions it left behind. They approached the project as a historical account, aiming to present the facts of the trial as they actually unfolded in the courtroom.
Despite the passage of 20 years since Michael Jackson’s trial, conversations and debates about it continue to spark controversy. Cameras were not allowed in the courtroom during the trial, leading to a public perception shaped by commentators and incomplete information. This docuseries aims to provide a detailed and forensic examination of the trial, offering viewers a deeper understanding of this significant moment in music history.
