Better Call Saul Actor Russell Andrews Announces ALS Diagnosis with Fiancée’s Support

Actor Russell Andrews, known for his appearances in popular shows like Better Call Saul and Grey’s Anatomy, recently revealed his diagnosis with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS is a rare and degenerative disease that affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, leading to difficulties with movement, speech, and independence.

During an interview on CNN’s The Story Is with Elex Michaelson, Andrews shared that he was diagnosed with ALS in late fall of the previous year. He explained that although the diagnosis has been humbling, he has been surrounded by a caring and supportive community that has not let him miss a step in terms of care, attention, awareness, and the ability to keep moving forward.

At first, Andrews feared he had suffered a stroke during the Covid pandemic, but later recognized some possible early signs of ALS. He mentioned experiencing twitches and pinched nerves in his neck, which eventually led to difficulty in doing everyday tasks like cleaning the pool and holding glasses.

His fiancée, Erica Tazel, who is also an actor known for her role in Justified, shared her experience of discovering Andrews’ diagnosis and described it as an answer to many questions they had been facing. She emphasized the importance of unconditional love and support during difficult times.

In addition to sharing his ALS diagnosis, Andrews also announced his partnership with the ALS Network in honor of ALS Awareness Month this May. This partnership aims to raise awareness about the disease and support individuals and families affected by ALS.

Russell Andrews’ story serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by those living with ALS and the importance of a strong support system and awareness in managing the disease.
