The Mandalorian and Grogu: Exploring the Shift in Marketing Strategy
Disney has recently shifted gears in their marketing strategy for the upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu. It’s a big change, but will it pay off?
Until a month ago, there wasn’t much excitement surrounding the first Star Wars movie to hit theaters in seven years. Disney had been focusing on their streaming platform, Disney+, and using targeted marketing to draw in viewers to shows like The Mandalorian. But now, things have changed.
Disney has realized that Disney+ wasn’t bringing in as much profit as they hoped. So, they shifted their focus back to theatrical releases, like Moana 2, which made over a billion dollars at the box office. Disney+ is now more of a marketing and testing ground for their big-screen projects.
As for The Mandalorian and Grogu, the initial marketing didn’t generate much buzz. But Disney has recently changed tactics, promoting the movie as a standalone adventure that anyone can enjoy, even without knowing the Star Wars universe inside and out. However, some fans have noticed that the movie seems to be a condensed version of a TV series, with many familiar characters making appearances.
Will this new marketing strategy work? We’ll have to wait and see when The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22. This Star Wars movie is definitely one to keep an eye on.
