Fortunately, the costume designer and the 28-year-old actor have teamed up on five projects, including Margo, so they have a good rapport. “I know what looks good on her and what fabrics she likes,” says Gordon-Crozier. “But I always put her in itchy sweaters she complains about.”

In Margo, Fanning dons everything from decades-old knits to DIY cone bras while embodying her sci-fi-inspired alter ego. Pfeiffer’s character, Margo’s mother, Shyanne, gets a distinct style too, drawing inspiration from the Real Housewives of Orange County aesthetic. Gordon-Crozier reveals that she tapped into Pfeiffer’s real-life background for the character’s wardrobe since the actor is actually from Orange County. “She’s actually from Orange County,” the designer points out. “So she was like, ‘This is who I would be if I hadn’t left.'”
