Nielsen Data: Top Shows on Disney+ for Star Wars Day
In honor of Star Wars Day, Nielsen has shared some interesting insights into the viewing habits of Star Wars fans on Disney+ over the past year. May the Fourth has turned into a big cultural moment, with fans tuning in to films and shows from the beloved franchise that started way back in May 1977.
Last year, viewers in the U.S. spent a whopping 33 billion minutes watching Star Wars content on both linear TV and streaming services, with streaming taking the lead. Disney+ has become the go-to spot for all things Star Wars, offering exclusive series that fans can access anytime they want.
In 2025, the most-watched film on Disney+ was “A New Hope”, followed by “The Phantom Menace” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. The release of the second season of “Andor” boosted interest in both “Rogue One” and the original film. Other popular shows included “Skeleton Crew” and “The Mandalorian”.
Last Star Wars Day, fans streamed over 637 million minutes of Star Wars content, and we can expect a similar trend this year. “Andor” was the top show watched, with the animated series “Tales Of The Underworld” also drawing a lot of attention on Disney+.
Nielsen also shared data on the top Star Wars titles streamed by different generations in the first quarter of 2026. Millennials and Gen X viewers favored “Andor”, while Gen Alpha and Baby Boomers were all about “The Mandalorian”.
It’s no surprise that the original films remain popular on Star Wars Day, and I’m guilty of rewatching “A New Hope” countless times myself! It’s interesting to see how different generations engage with the content, with Gen Z still enjoying “The Clone Wars” while “The Mandalorian” remains a hit across the board.
As someone who straddles the Gen X/Millennial divide, I can see why “Andor” garnered so much interest last year. The absence of the sequel trilogy films from the top list is notable, underscoring the connection fans from previous generations have with the classic films compared to the newer offerings.
