Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 and Kevin
The “Stranger Things” gang is back, but this time in animated form in Netflix’s “Tales of ’85.” Premiering Thursday, this new series fills in the gaps between the second and third seasons, taking place after Eleven sealed the gate to the Upside Down and before the Russians caused trouble again.
Many TV series extend their storylines through novels, comics, or even radio shows, and “Stranger Things” is no different with its “Tales from Hawkins” graphic novels. “Tales of ’85” follows in this tradition, adding movement, sound, and acting to the mix.
An animated format allows for more action, more monsters, and more chances for Eleven to show off her superpowers without breaking the bank. Set in a snowy winter wonderland, the animation captures the mood and setting perfectly, creating a visually stunning experience.
Airing under showrunner Eric Robles, “Tales of ’85” streamlines the storytelling, focusing more on the action and adventure rather than the soap opera drama that sometimes bogged down the live-action series. With the original actors being too expensive and AI clones being out of the question, animation was the perfect choice to continue the “Stranger Things” saga.
