Disney+ Announces R-Rated Marvel TV Slate for 2026

Marvel Studios is stepping into new territory with a lineup of R-rated projects on the horizon. While mature content isn’t entirely new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these types of stories have been a small part of the studio’s releases over the past 18 years. But looking ahead, we can expect more of this adult-oriented content.

Recently, Marvel Television debuted Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which carries a TV-MA rating, the equivalent of an R rating in movies, due to its intense action and mature themes. Following this, fans can look forward to The Punisher: One Last Kill, a Disney+ Special Presentation featuring Jon Bernthal reprising his role. This special event is set to be another R-rated installment, following the trend set by Bernthal’s previous Punisher releases on Netflix.

In a groundbreaking move, the MCU will see two R-rated projects back to back for the first time ever. But the excitement doesn’t stop there – there are five more R-rated MCU projects in the works:

Daredevil: Born Again Season 3: This Disney+ show has been renewed for a third season, making it the first live-action series on the platform to achieve this milestone. The story for Season 3 is still under wraps, but fans can expect more drama and action as Matt Murdock faces off against Wilson Fisk.

Marvel Zombies Season 2: The first animated R-rated release in the MCU, Marvel Zombies, has been renewed for a second season. The new episodes will continue the story of Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, and Riri Williams as they navigate the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse.

Blade: While details are scarce, the Blade movie, starring Mahershala Ali, is expected to be R-rated. Fans are eagerly awaiting more information as the film’s development continues.

Midnight Sons: Marvel is reportedly working on a movie based on the Midnight Sons team from the comics. With characters like Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, and Blade rumored to be part of the lineup, this darker, supernatural-themed movie is likely to carry an R-rating.

Deadpool 4/X-Force: Following the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, plans are in motion for a fourth installment featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Whether it’s a solo Deadpool story or an X-Force team-up, fans can anticipate another R-rated adventure.

The future of the MCU is looking grittier and more mature with these R-rated projects in the pipeline. Stay tuned for more updates and get ready to experience a different side of the Marvel Universe!
