Mets Opening Day Broadcast Sets Viewership Record
Mets fans may have been a bit disappointed when the team’s Opening Day game against Pittsburgh aired on NBC and Peacock instead of SNY. But it turns out that a whole bunch of people were actually watching! The game managed to pull in a whopping 2.3 million viewers, making it the most-watched afternoon Opening Day game ever, as reported by NBC. This was NBC’s first time airing an MLB game as part of their regular lineup since 2000, and it was broadcast across the nation.
Later on in the evening, NBC and Peacock also showed the World Series champion Dodgers going up against Arizona in prime time. That game drew an impressive 3.2 million viewers, marking it as the most-watched Opening Day prime-time game since 2017 (Cubs-Cardinals), according to the network. Overall, the two games combined to average 2.7 million viewers.
For those missing their favorite SNY broadcasters, the beloved “GKR” team of Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling made their season debut in the Mets’ second game on Saturday. So, even if you didn’t catch the Opening Day action live, there are still plenty of games ahead to enjoy with your favorite broadcasters.
