Upcoming YA Drama “This Ain’t Our First Rodeo” in Development at Hulu

Hulu is diving back into the world of young adult drama with a new series in the works. The streaming platform is developing an adaptation of the novel “This Ain’t Our First Rodeo,” reported by Variety. The novel, written by Liara Tamani, tells a contemporary Western love story set in Houston’s rodeo world. It follows Josie and Shawn’s second chance at love after a dreamy first date that reconnects them after three years.

“This Ain’t Our First Rodeo” is Tamani’s fourth novel, following her well-received works like “Calling My Name,” “All the Things We Never Knew,” and “What She Missed.” Hulu has not stopped there, with other YA drama projects also in the works. These include “Capsized,” “Phony” starring Sam Nivola and Connie Britton, and “Foster Dade,” which is currently awaiting a decision.

Hulu’s new wave of YA dramas comes as the platform aims to revitalize its presence in the genre after the shift in the Freeform pipeline, which is no longer producing scripted content. In addition to these new series, Hulu has some exciting news lined up. American Idol is expanding with a brand-new official podcast hosted by Danielle Fishel, while Miley Cyrus recently recreated her iconic Disney Channel Wand ID before the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. ABC is set to premiere the weekly docuseries “Betrayal: Secrets & Lies,” and Hulu is working on a documentary focusing on the legendary Hall of Fame women’s basketball coach, Pat Summitt.
