Top Underrated Movies of 2025 Available for Streaming Now
As we wrap up another awards season, I wanted to give myself a little pat on the back for going 21/24 in my Oscars predictions. It’s always fun to beat my colleague Odie Henderson by just one point and win our office pool at Boston Globe Media. But enough about me, let’s talk about some of the hidden gems from 2025 that may not have made it to the Oscars, but definitely deserve some love.
“The Naked Gun”: This comedy starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson was hands down the funniest movie of the year. Packed with jokes and solid performances, it’s a must-watch on Paramount+.
“The Ballad of Wallis Island”: A charming comedy-drama featuring Tim Key, this film follows the journey of a lottery winner who reunites his favorite folk duo. Catch it on Prime Video for a heartwarming story.
“28 Years Later”: Danny Boyle’s sequel to “28 Days Later” takes a deeper look at the world of zombies, Brexit, and family dynamics. With superb performances and a touching storyline, this Netflix film is a hidden gem worth watching.
If you’re itching for some good TV shows, consider checking out “The Martian” (2015) or “Lone Wolf McQuaid” (1983) in honor of the late Chuck Norris. And for some laughs, “Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat” (2026) is a hidden camera comedy show you won’t want to miss.
But if you’re looking for something to skip, “Imperfect Women” (2026) may not be the best choice. The chemistry between the leads falls flat, and the murder mystery plot feels like a retread of better shows.
That’s all for now on The Queue. If you enjoyed this newsletter, don’t forget to share it with your friends. Until next time, happy streaming!
