Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Cancelled at Paramount+

Paramount+ has announced that the new Star Trek series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, will not be returning for a third season. The show’s upcoming second season, which has already been filmed, will be its last, although an official release date has not been confirmed.

Set in the 32nd Century era first introduced in Star Trek: Discovery, Starfleet Academy centered around the students and staff of the prestigious academy, showcasing the first Starfleet cadets in over a century. Led by Holly Hunter as Chancellor Nahla Ake and featuring Robert Picardo from previous Star Trek series, the show also introduced a fresh cast of talented newcomers. Although the series received positive reviews from critics, it struggled to attract a large audience, leading to its cancellation.

In a joint statement, CBS Studios and Paramount+ expressed their pride in the series, highlighting the ambition, passion, and creativity that went into its production. They praised the cast and crew for expanding the Star Trek universe and pushing storytelling boundaries in the spirit of Gene Roddenberry’s vision. While fans may be disappointed by the series’ end, the upcoming second season promises to be a satisfying conclusion to the show’s run.
