Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals Hulu’s Decision to Cancel Buffy Reboot
Sarah Michelle Gellar recently shared some news about the highly anticipated Buffy reboot. Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with the project, Gellar revealed on Instagram. The actress expressed her sadness and thanked director Chloe Zhao for the opportunity. Although the reboot won’t happen, Gellar assured fans that her love for Buffy and their support still mean a lot to her.
Gellar had previously confirmed her return as Buffy Summers in the new series, which would introduce a new slayer, played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. She first portrayed Buffy on the WB’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 1997 to 2003.
Reflecting on her experience on the reboot set, Gellar described it as an overwhelming but familiar place she didn’t expect to find herself. The actress shared that it took her several years to fully commit to joining the project, emphasizing the importance of taking the time to do things right.
Chloé Zhao, an Oscar-winning filmmaker who was involved in the proposed reboot, provided an exciting update on the series. She approached Gellar with the idea to resurrect Buffy Summers and serve as an executive producer and director on the project.
In addition to her involvement in the Buffy reboot, Sarah Michelle Gellar is starring in the upcoming film Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. This movie follows the successful 2019 film Ready or Not, and Gellar plays Ursula Danforth, the strategic mastermind behind a deadly game.
