Michelle Pfeiffer Consulted Helen Mirren Before Joining ‘The Madison’ by Taylor Sheridan

Michelle Pfeiffer was first approached about joining Taylor Sheridan’s new series, “The Madison,” she only had vague details about the show. Considering it was initially planned to be a part of the “Yellowstone” universe, although that idea was put on hold. Pfeiffer was intrigued by the story’s concept, involving a wealthy New York family in Montana. She took a leap of faith, realizing she had to commit without seeing a script.

Before signing on, Pfeiffer reached out to Helen Mirren, who had worked with Sheridan on “1923.” Mirren had nothing but praise for the show, assuring Pfeiffer it was a wonderful experience. Kurt Russell, who plays Pfeiffer’s husband on “The Madison,” joked that Harrison Ford advised him to run away from the project, but he was drawn to the exceptional scripts and the opportunity to work alongside Pfeiffer again.

The duo hadn’t worked together since the late ’80s, but their reunion on “The Madison” was unique. In the first season, they shared scenes through phone conversations, with Russell filming in a Montana cabin and Pfeiffer in New York. Pfeiffer revealed that Russell wasn’t cast when they started shooting, and there were other names being considered. However, once Russell’s name came up, she knew he was the perfect fit for the role.

While most of their scenes together were shot for Season 2, the chemistry between Pfeiffer and Russell was evident. Drawing from their own long-term relationships, the actors found common ground with their characters. Russell insisted on seeing Pfeiffer’s footage to match their timings accurately. According to Russell, Sheridan tailored the script specifically for them.

Looking ahead to Season 2, Pfeiffer teased a surprising amount of humor, while Russell hinted at more emotional depth. It’s clear that Sheridan’s vision for the show was finely tuned to showcase the talents of Pfeiffer and Russell, creating a dynamic and compelling series.
