Aaron Pierre’s Green Lantern John Stewart Returning in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow
BO Max series Lanterns, which is set to premiere in August 2026. This series follows John as a rookie Green Lantern, learning under the guidance of Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan. It seems like John will have mastered the art of wielding the power ring by the time he appears in Man of Tomorrow.
John Stewart, a character created by Dennis O’Neil and Neal Adams, first appeared in Green Lantern #87 in December 1971. He gained widespread recognition after his role in the Justice League animated series in the early 2000s, where he was voiced by Phil LaMarr. This marks the second movie in a row by James Gunn’s Superman franchise to feature a Green Lantern character. The previous film introduced Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, another Green Lantern who has a rather unfriendly attitude. It remains to be seen whether Guy or Hal will join John in Man of Tomorrow.
Man of Tomorrow will bring back familiar faces from Superman, such as David Corenswet as Kal-El, Nicolas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen. The storyline will revolve around Superman and Luthor teaming up to combat the formidable villain Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger.
Directed and written by James Gunn, Man of Tomorrow is expected to start production later this year, with a scheduled release date of July 9, 2027. Stay tuned for updates on the new Lanterns trailer and why the choice of Brainiac as the villain in Man of Tomorrow is spot on.
