New Netflix Shark-Based Weather Disaster Movie: A Must-Watch

Sharks in the sea, sharks in tornadoes—classic movie fears. But what about sharks in your living room? That’s the premise of “Thrash,” the new movie on Netflix from Tommy Wirkola, the director of “Violent Night.” The first trailer just dropped, and it’s sure to make a splash.

In this film, a massive hurricane hits a coastal town, causing devastating flooding. The floodwaters bring the sharks from the sea right into the streets, homes, and everywhere else. With a cast that includes Phoebe Dynevor from “Bridgerton,” Whitney Peak from “Gossip Girl,” and Djimon Hounsou from “Guardians of the Galaxy,” this movie is sure to have some star power.

If this all sounds eerily familiar, that’s because it is. Originally titled “Beneath the Storm,” this film has seen its fair share of changes since 2024. But now, it’s finally set to debut on Netflix on April 10 as “Thrash.” This movie may remind you of “Crawl” from 2019, where alligators wreak havoc on a small town. While alligators may be more plausible on land, seeing sharks invade your home is a whole other level of fear.

The real test for this movie will be finding the balance between the absurd and the underlying message. Sure, hurricanes causing floods with sharks attacking pregnant women in cars is far-fetched, but the reality of hurricanes causing deadly floods is all too common. If Wirkola can shed some light on that while also giving audiences a rollercoaster ride of laughs, cheers, and screams, this could be something special. We’ll have to wait until April 10 when “Thrash” lands on Netflix to find out. Ready for more Netflix news and updates?
