Actor from Walking Dead wows in sneak peek of Prime Video’s God of War series
In 2022, fans of the video game God of War were thrilled when Prime Video announced a series adaptation was in the works. What made headlines in January 2026? The exciting news that Ryan Hurst, known for his role as Beta on The Walking Dead, had been cast as the iconic character Kratos. This casting decision instantly caught the attention of fans, as Kratos is a character known for his immense strength, emotional struggles, and the complex relationship with his son.
Since Hurst’s casting, more actors have joined the project, but fans were eagerly awaiting a glimpse of how the characters would come to life on screen. That moment arrived when Prime Video and Sony Pictures Television released the first-look image of Hurst as Kratos, standing alongside Callum Vinson as Atreus. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore and director Frederick E.O. Toye are at the helm of the series, which has officially started production. While there is no confirmed release date, viewers can expect two seasons exploring Kratos and Atreus’ journey. Season 1 will follow their quest to scatter the ashes of their late wife and mother, Faye, as they navigate challenges that test their strength and compassion.
In addition to Hurst and Vinson, the cast includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
