Ryan Coogler to revive X-Files for Hulu

Ryan Coogler, known for his work on Sinners and Black Panther, is set to bring back the iconic science-fiction drama, The X-Files, through Hulu. The streaming service has given the green light for a pilot episode, which Coogler will both write and direct.

Deadline.com has reported that Danielle Deadwyler, known for her roles in Euphoria, The Woman in the Yard, The Piano Lesson, and Till, will be leading the series. The show is set to follow two FBI agents forming an unlikely bond as they tackle cases involving unexplained phenomena in a long-shuttered division.

While no other members of the cast have been announced yet, the original creator of The X-Files, Chris Carter, will be involved as an executive producer for the revival. The original series, starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, ran from 1993 to 2002 and saw a revival with its 10th and 11th seasons in 2016 and 2018.

Coogler’s current project, Sinners, has garnered an astounding 16 Oscar nominations, which include categories like Best Picture and Best Director.
