Top Streamers Increase Sports Content by 52% in 2025

Gracenote’s recent Data Hub update revealed some exciting news for fans of sports content on streaming platforms. In 2025, the top five subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platforms saw a significant increase of 52% in sports content compared to the previous year. This growth showcases how platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, and Paramount+ have been expanding their sports offerings.

When looking at individual episodes or matches within a sports show, the amount of sports content on these platforms grew by 52%. However, when considering each entire league or show as one instance, the growth was still impressive at 12.5%. This growth in sports content is part of a broader trend of increasing content across these platforms, with a 20% overall growth year-on-year.

To be considered a global platform, Gracenote requires that a streaming service is tracked in nine or more countries. Out of the many platforms out there, these five have met that criteria, cementing their global impact.

Looking ahead, the trend of sports content growth on major streaming platforms is likely to continue. Paramount+ recently acquired the UK broadcasting rights for the men’s Champions League, with coverage set to start in the 2027/28 season. Apple TV is now home to Formula 1 in the US, Disney+ has started airing women’s Champions League and men’s LaLiga matches, Netflix has expanded its content with boxing, and Prime Video has established itself as a major player in sports broadcasting across the UK and Europe.

Gracenote’s data also highlighted a surge in sports content on FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels, showing a 32% increase compared to the previous year. This growth in sports content on both major streaming platforms and FAST channels indicates a growing interest and investment in sports programming across the board.
