Ted Lasso Star Fired from National League Head Coaching Position after 8 Months

Sam Cox, beloved for his role as Armando on the hit Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso, has unfortunately been let go as head coach of National League team Wealdstone after just eight months in charge. The 35-year-old, who once came up through Tottenham’s academy, took the reins at Grosvenor Vale in June 2025 but has struggled to steer the team away from relegation danger.

With crucial games on the horizon, the decision was made to part ways with Cox and bring in a fresh voice to lead the team. Wealdstone has only managed one win in their last 13 National League matches, leading to this difficult but necessary change in west London.

Chairman Rory Fitzgerald explained that the board felt a new energy and direction was needed to refocus the team for the challenges ahead in both the league and cup competitions. Despite facing injury setbacks, the club believes that a return to early-season form is still possible to secure their National League status and even reach Wembley. The club expressed gratitude to Cox and his analyst Liam Badcock for their contributions and announced that the coaching responsibilities will now be taken on by First-Team coach Danny Payne and the rest of the management team.

As Cox’s schedule clears, fans eagerly anticipate the return of Ted Lasso for Season 4, which promises new characters and storylines. While the exact release date has not been confirmed, the show is currently in production and fans can expect some exciting developments in the AFC Richmond adventures.

Wealdstone currently sits 17th in the National League table, six points clear of relegation, with upcoming matches against Brackley Town, Braintree, and Morecambe. The team will now focus on finding their form under new leadership as they aim to secure their place in the league and make a strong push towards success.
