Box Office News: Strategies for Success and Avoiding Box Office Flops

This weekend, moviegoers haven’t shown much love for the murder-themed new releases. According to Deadline, it looks like GOAT is set to steal the box office spotlight from WB’s Wuthering Heights, which seems to be flopping as we previously predicted. Glen Powell, known for his noteworthy performances, is facing disappointment with How to Make a Killing, an A24 film that’s projected to only earn $3 million this weekend. This marks his second recent box office letdown after the release of Paramount’s The Running Man remake.

Some suggest that Powell’s career might have been negatively impacted by signing on to too many projects, resulting in overexposure. That’s a common pitfall when Hollywood pushes actors into the spotlight too quickly. A similar situation almost occurred with Powell’s Anyone But You co-star Sydney Sweeney, but she scored big with Lionsgate’s The Housemaid. Powell does have a mysterious project with J.J. Abrams slated for later this year, so things might turn around for him.

On the other hand, 20th Century Studios’ Psycho Killer, which has been shelved for years, is only seeing a modest release on approximately 1,100 screens this weekend, with a mere $2 million in projected earnings. Surprisingly, the film wasn’t redirected straight to Hulu, especially considering the harsh reviews it’s received.

As for the box office crown, it looks like GOAT will likely surpass Wuthering Heights in its second week of release, with estimated earnings of around $15.7 million compared to the latter’s $14 million. However, it’s still early, and these positions could change. I Can Only Imagine 2 is expected to secure third place with roughly $8 million, while Crime 101 isn’t far behind with approximately $6 million.
