Hulu Orders ‘Deano’ Animated Series, Executive Produced by ‘Bluey’ Creator Joe Brumm
Hulu is making a big move by picking up a full-length series based on the web show “Childish Deano.” The new half-hour comedy, now called “Deano,” will consist of eight episodes and is created by Dean Thomas and David Ferrier. Thomas will also voice the character of Deano, while Joe Brumm, the mastermind behind the beloved animated kids show “Bluey,” is on board as an executive producer, marking his first venture into adult animated series.
The production will be handled by Hooligan Animation in Brisbane, Australia, with financial support from the Australian Federal government’s Producer Offset and a PDV grant from the State of Queensland. The show’s executive producers include Greg Basser, Tracey Robertson, Ross Shuman, Nathan Mayfield, and Tracey Vieira from Hooligan Animation, as well as Adam Bailey from BBC Studios. BBC Studios, 20th Television Animation, and Hooligan Animation will collaborate as co-producers, with BBC Studios taking the lead while Hulu handles global distribution.
The creators of “Deano,” Thomas, and Ferrier, expressed their excitement about the project, stating, “We’re so excited to bring our spicy child and his sidekick to a global audience with two of the world’s biggest story megaphones in Disney and the BBC. It’s so unreal we’re half expecting someone to tell us it’s a prank.”
