Fran Drescher’s TV Genre She May Not Return To
After years of success on the hit sitcom The Nanny, Fran Drescher recently discussed her future career plans. During a guest appearance on Ted Danson’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, Drescher revealed that she likely won’t be returning to the sitcom genre. She explained, “You know, it’s just the idea of going into the soundstage every day.”
Drescher, who played nanny Fran Fine on The Nanny from 1993 to 1999, mentioned that her most recent sitcom experience on the show Indebted wasn’t as enjoyable as she had hoped. Reflecting on the long winter shooting days, she shared, “It was pretty dark when I entered the stage, and it was dark when I left it. I just lost the whole day.”
Despite stepping away from sitcoms as an actor, Drescher hinted that she might consider returning to the small screen in a behind-the-scenes role. She expressed interest in writing, executive producing, and directing, roles she had previously taken on in her own shows. “Maybe it would be more stimulating and gratifying,” she said.
While Drescher’s acting days in sitcoms may be behind her, she still holds a special bond with her former co-stars from The Nanny. In a September reunion photo shared by Charles Shaughnessy, who played Max Sheffield on the show, Drescher cherished the memories of working with the cast. “Getting the band back together…?!” Shaughnessy captioned the post.
Although Fran Drescher may not be returning to sitcoms as an actor, her talent and creativity may find new outlets behind the camera. Stay tuned for where her career takes her next!
