Apptopia Data Shows Older Viewers Streaming Longer at Winter Olympics on Peacock

During the first 10 days of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, older Americans broke records by spending an average of 90 minutes streaming the Games on Peacock using their mobile devices. This data comes from Apptopia, an analytics provider that tracks streaming trends.

In total, viewers have consumed over 6.3 billion minutes of Winter Games content on Peacock, surpassing the combined total for the 2018 PyeongChang and 2022 Beijing Winter Games. It’s clear that the Olympics are a big draw for streaming audiences.

Across all NBCUniversal platforms, an average of 25.7 million viewers tune in daily to catch the action. This number has doubled compared to the 2022 Games, showing the growing popularity of live streaming sports events.

The 2026 Opening Ceremony of the Winter Games was especially popular, attracting an average of 3 million viewers on Peacock. According to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics, this made it the most-streamed Winter Games opening ceremony to date.

Apptopia’s data also reveals that 27% of Winter Olympics viewers on Peacock are new to the app, while 23% were returning users who re-subscribed just in time for the Games. The remaining 50% were already active Peacock users, showing that the Winter Games were successful in re-engaging former subscribers.

Overall, this data suggests that the Winter Olympics have not only attracted new viewers but also rekindled interest among lapsed subscribers. The Games have played a key role in deepening engagement among existing Peacock users. It’s exciting to see how live streaming sports events can bring audiences together and keep them entertained.
