David E Kelley Pledges to Avoid Collaborating with Wife Michelle Pfeiffer Until ‘Margot’s Financial Struggles’

David E. Kelley had something interesting to share at a recent Apple TV+ press event. He admitted that he had previously sworn off working with his wife, Michelle Pfeiffer, until an opportunity came up to work together on “Margo’s Got Money Troubles.” In fact, he described casting Pfeiffer in the series as a no-brainer.

As a successful TV series creator known for shows like “Ally McBeal” and “Big Little Lies,” Kelley made this revelation during a discussion panel at the press day panel. He joked about his earlier vow to never work with his wife until this project came along.

Kelley explained that after reading the script and source material, he could only envision Pfeiffer playing the role of Margo’s mother. He commented that her decision to join the series was the “second luckiest yes” he had ever received from her, following her agreement to marry him.

Pfeiffer herself also chimed in, mentioning the strong chemistry among the cast on set. She noted that the group, which includes actors like Elle Fanning and Nick Offerman, quickly connected from their first table read, creating a joyful and natural process.

“Margo’s Got Money Troubles” is based on Rufi Thorpe’s best-selling novel and is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ on April 15, 2026. The first three episodes will be released simultaneously, followed by weekly episodes through late May. The comedy-drama stars Elle Fanning as Margo, a young woman navigating unexpected pregnancy and financial struggles, with Pfeiffer portraying her resilient and outspoken mother.

The series boasts an ensemble cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Greg Kinnear, and Marcia Gay Harden, and is produced jointly by A24 and Kelley’s production company.
