Sherry Cola Uses Comedy to Explore Therapy in ‘Shrinking Star’
Sherry Cola has a jam-packed schedule these days. As a stand-up comedian and actress, she’s been keeping busy guest-starring on Shrinking, alongside Jessica Williams. In the show, she plays Maya, a therapy client who is a bit unsure about the whole process. This role may seem like a departure for Sherry, but she actually finds therapy to be quite inspiring, even joking that she’s come up with some of her best material during her sessions.
During a recent chat on The Hollywood Reporter podcast, I’m Having an Episode, Sherry talked openly about the pressure on Asian women to keep their emotions bottled up. She shared, “The fact that we’re telling a story about expressing yourself and getting things off your chest, I think it’s gonna be pretty impactful.”
If you’ve ever been to therapy, you might relate to Sherry’s experience. Personally, she’s been in therapy for over four years and wishes she had started even sooner. Her take on being a therapy patient? Well, it seems like Sherry is thriving, both on and off the small screen.
