Analyzing Wonder Man’s Connection to Obscure Marvel Show

Marvel Studios introduced the Marvel Spotlight banner for series like “Wonder Man” and 2024’s “Echo.” This banner includes shows that are less connected to the broader MCU, with only a nod to the MCU through Ben Kingsley’s appearance as Trevor Slattery. But there’s more to “Wonder Man” than meets the eye – it features a subtle link to the nearly-forgotten Marvel TV show “Cloak and Dagger.”

“Cloak and Dagger,” which originally aired before the days of Disney+, starred Olivia Holt as Dagger and Aubrey Joseph as Cloak. Dagger could create light daggers, while Cloak could transport himself and others through another dimension – kind of like a human portal. Fans of “Wonder Man” may notice similarities in DeMarr “Doorman” Davis’s abilities, played by Byron Bowers. He gained his powers from Roxxon Corporation’s chemical waste, allowing him to turn his body into a portal through solid objects, just like Cloak from “Cloak and Dagger.”

In the MCU, “Runaways” highlighted the shared Darkforce Dimension that both Cloak and Doorman access. While it’s still unclear whether Doorman’s powers come from the same dimension as Cloak, the impact of his abilities is evident in Hollywood. Doorman rose to fame as a movie star, starring alongside actor Josh Gad, who even made a cameo as himself in “Wonder Man.” But trouble brewed when Gad disappeared into Doorman’s portal during a film shoot, potentially whisked away to another dimension. This incident led to the “Doorman Clause,” banning superpowered individuals from movie and TV sets.
