Disney+ Disables Dolby Vision and HDR10+ in European Countries

Disney+ is currently experiencing some technical challenges in several European countries, which has led to the disabling of Dolby Vision and HDR10 for Premium subscribers. This means that if you’re tuning in from affected markets, you won’t be able to enjoy 3D movies on the Apple Vision Pro in Dolby Vision format either.

According to a statement received by FlatPanelsHD, Disney+ is aware of the issue and is actively working on restoring access to Dolby Vision. While the support page for video quality on Disney+ has removed all references to Dolby Vision, rest assured that 4K UHD and HDR support are still available on supported devices.

However, there seems to be more to the story. Reports suggest that there is a patent dispute between Disney and Interdigital, a US company specializing in advanced video technologies. A German court recently issued an injunction against Disney for infringing on an InterDigital patent related to streaming video content with high dynamic range (HDR) technology.

If you’re in Europe and subscribed to Disney+ Premium, don’t worry—you can still enjoy content in 4K and standard HDR. But for now, it’s unclear when support for premium High Dynamic Range formats will be reinstated. Stay tuned for updates on this situation!
