Milo Ventimiglia cast in HBO Max cop drama pilot “American Blue”

Milo Ventimiglia has landed a starring role in a new cop drama pilot called “American Blue,” set to air on HBO Max. This one-hour drama will follow Brian “Milk” Milkovich, played by Ventimiglia, who returns to his hometown in Joliet, Illinois, to help revitalize a struggling police department while facing his own complicated past. Described as a determined and natural leader seeking redemption in the place he once left, Ventimiglia’s character promises a compelling narrative.

Ventimiglia, known for his role on NBC’s “This Is Us,” will be joined by director David Ayer, famous for films like “Fury” and “Suicide Squad,” who brings a gritty and grounded style to the project. The screenplay is written by Jeremy Carver, with Brian Udovich and Neil Reynolds serving as executive producers. Ventimiglia will also be a co-executive producer, with Russ Cundiff as the producer.

The goal of the series, according to HBO Max’s head of original programming Sarah Aubrey, is to delve into the contemporary issues surrounding policing, offering viewers a chance to immerse themselves fully in the world of the show through longer seasons. Clancy Collins White, the president of creative affairs at Warner Bros. Television, praised the collaboration between Ventimiglia and Ayer, labeling it a strong match for this character-driven drama.
