HBO Announces Conclusion of House of the Dragon After Season 4
Game of Thrones fans, listen up! HBO has officially announced that the Game of Thrones spinoff series House of the Dragon will be concluding after its fourth season. This information was confirmed by Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, in an interview with Deadline.
The decision to end House of the Dragon after Season 4 was made to stay true to the history of the Targaryens. For those who are familiar with the books, you know how the Targaryen story eventually wraps up. So, it seems fitting that this particular history of the Targaryens will come to a natural end with Season 4.
While author George R. R. Martin has shown his support for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, he has been less than pleased with the direction of House of the Dragon. In fact, Martin has been vocal about his strained relationship with the showrunner, Ryan Condal, describing it as “worse than rocky” and “abysmal.” Martin’s dissatisfaction with the show’s plot development came to a head during a tense Zoom call where he expressed his objections, ultimately feeling like the story was no longer his own.
As for the final season of House of the Dragon, HBO has not yet determined if it will be a “supersized” season or not. The show’s team is currently wrapping up post-production on Season 3 and planning out what Season 4 will look like. It’s a waiting game to see how many episodes will make up the final season.
With House of the Dragon wrapping up in 2028, fans are already looking ahead to what’s next for HBO and the Game of Thrones universe. Rumors are swirling about a potential sequel series centered around Arya Stark, as well as an animated spinoff series titled 9 Voyages, following the adventures of Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka The Sea Snake, voiced by actor Steve Toussaint in House of the Dragon.
