Live-Action ‘Gundam’ Movie Stars Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo on Netflix

Get ready, because the live-action Gundam movie is making its way back to Netflix! This time around, the movie will feature stars Noah Centineo and Sydney Sweeney and is gearing up to start production sometime this year. It’s great news for fans who have been following the development of this project for a while now.

Believe it or not, Netflix first announced this project a whole 8 years ago in July 2018. Legendary Pictures is co-producing the movie, and although details were scarce back then, we’ve learned a lot more about it since. In April 2021, Netflix officially confirmed that director Jordan Vogt-Roberts had joined the project, and even shared some awesome concept art.

While originally scheduled to film in 2023, production got pushed back. By October 2024, there were big changes in store for the movie, with Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle coming on board as an executive producer and director. Despite all the ups and downs, this project has really kept us on our toes.

Fast forward to 2025, and we finally got some exciting casting news. Sydney Sweeney was announced to be part of the project in April, with Noah Centineo reportedly in talks later in November. And now, Deadline has reported that Netflix is officially back in the game as the distributor for the movie. That means we can expect to catch it on our screens soon!

Filming for the movie is set to kick off as early as March 2026, and it will take place in Australia and the UK. Of course, these plans could change, given the delays that have happened in the past, but we’re hoping for a smooth production process this time around.

For all the Gundam fans out there, this is a huge moment. The franchise started back in 1979 with Mobile Suit Gundam, and it has had a massive impact on the sci-fi genre ever since. Netflix even licensed some of the earlier shows and released two exclusive titles: Hathaway and Requiem for Vengeance.
