12 Outlines for Future Dunk from George R.R. Martin
In a recent interview, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showrunner Ira Parker shared some exciting news for fans of the series. He revealed that George R.R. Martin has outlined 12 more Dunk and Egg stories, providing a roadmap for the show’s future if it extends beyond three seasons. While the series is based on Martin’s novellas, Parker assured fans that they have a clear understanding of the major beats of Dunk and Egg’s lives, avoiding the pitfalls that Game of Thrones faced.
Although Martin has plans to write more Dunk and Egg novellas in the future, they won’t be published until after he completes The Winds of Winter. As for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Parker expressed his enthusiasm for the show, stating, “I would do 12 of these.” However, he acknowledged that HBO’s current plan is to only adapt the three novellas in the series.
As Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently in production, Parker hinted at some changes in store for viewers. Adapting the second Dunk and Egg novella, “The Sworn Sword,” the upcoming season may be smaller in scope than the first. With the same six-episode format but potentially smaller scale due to budget constraints, Parker explained that filming locations and production costs play a significant role in shaping the new season.
