Streaming Ratings Drop as ‘Fallout’ Season 2 Shifts from Binge to Weekly Release

The most recent Nielsen streaming statistics for the second season of Fallout showed a significant decrease compared to the first season in 2024. However, it’s essential to consider all the factors that come into play here.

During the week of December 15-21, Fallout accumulated 794 million viewing minutes on Prime Video with the premiere of season two on December 16. This number is significantly lower than the 2.9 billion minutes of watch time the first season garnered in April 2024, making it the best series premiere on the Amazon-owned platform.

What makes the seasons different is that Prime Video released season one of Fallout as a binge, allowing viewers to watch all episodes at once. However, season two followed a weekly release schedule, with only one episode dropping on December 16 instead of two or three, as seen in other series.

Despite the decline in viewing minutes, almost 800 million minutes is still a substantial number. Nielsen reports that the season two premiere accounted for 54 percent of the total viewing time, approximately 429 million minutes. If Prime Video had released more episodes on December 16, the numbers would likely be much higher. Nielsen includes viewing data from all seasons of a series in its streaming rankings.

In other news, Stranger Things maintained its position as the top program overall.
