Ryan Hurst Announced as Lead in Prime Video’s ‘God of War’ Series

Ryan Hurst, known for his work on “Sons of Anarchy” and “The Walking Dead,” has landed a starring role in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming “God of War” series. In the show based on the popular PlayStation video game franchise, Hurst will portray Kratos, a Spartan warrior who made a deal with Ares for victory in battle. The character of Kratos has been a central figure in the franchise, spanning over 10 video games.

Interestingly, Hurst already has a connection to the “God of War” franchise as he previously voiced the character of Thor in “God of War: Ragnarok.” Prime Video announced the series back in December 2022 and has since made significant progress with the casting and preproduction.

Initially, the show had a different creative team, but they departed in October 2024 to pave the way for a new direction. Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on “Outlander” and “Battlestar Galactica,” took over as the showrunner. The series has a two-season order, and Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes.

“God of War” series will draw inspiration from the two most recent games in the franchise, focusing on the journey of Kratos and his 10-year-old son. Stay tuned for more updates as production moves forward!
