Hijack and The Night Manager Season 2: Exciting Updates and Thrills

When I started reviewing TV shows, I noticed a big difference between movies and series. Movies aim to end on a memorable note, while TV shows want to keep us unsatisfied so we come back for more. This week, we are treated to the second seasons of two popular series – Hijack on Apple TV and The Night Manager on Prime Video. I never expected sequels to these series with such definitive endings, but here they are!

The original Hijack, released in 2023, featured Idris Elba as Sam Nelson, a corporate negotiator caught up in a skyjacking while on his way to see his ex. It was a fun, action-packed story where Elba’s charismatic presence shone through. It seemed impossible to bring Sam back for another round, but Season 2 ties his second hijacking to the first one, making it somewhat plausible. This time, Sam finds himself on a crowded Berlin subway train facing off against hijackers with deadly demands.

The sequel follows the same formula as the original, with a mix of passengers, Sam’s ex-wife in danger, shady officials, and a compassionate woman controller. Elba’s performance is even better this time around as the plot lets him explore darker territory. While the show is more intricately plotted, it’s still all about the adrenaline rush. I enjoyed watching Elba in action and the snowy Berlin setting, but for a show like this to be truly thrilling, it has to move briskly. At eight episodes, Hijack 2 feels a bit slow-paced compared to action movies like Die Hard and Speed.

In The Night Manager Season 2, Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as MI6 agent Jonathan Pine.
