Longford’s Shaunagh Connaire Debut Film Acquired by Disney+
The debut short film by Longford’s very own Shaunagh Connaire, called ‘Brown Bread’, has been picked up by Disney+. How cool is that? The film, which showcases the beauty of County Longford, had its big debut at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2025.
When asked about her reaction to this amazing news, Shaunagh shared with the ‘Longford Leader’:
“Brown Bread is a story deeply connected to Longford, with the county itself playing almost a starring role. Having a massive platform like Disney+ recognise this tale as something that can touch hearts well beyond our borders is such a fantastic feeling.”
After a heartwarming local screening at the Backstage Theatre, Shaunagh couldn’t contain her excitement. She said, “It was truly special to share the film with loved ones, including my godmother’s family, who unknowingly played a part in shaping this story. A huge thank you to the Backstage crew for making it all happen.”
Making the big announcement on LinkedIn on January 3, Shaunagh expressed her joy, saying, “I aimed to create a story that captures the essence of Irish life but also has a universal appeal. Seeing this dream come true with a major acquisition like Disney+ is incredibly validating, and a reminder that small, special stories can travel far (Go Longford!).” Big shoutout to Julia Ryan, Network Ireland, Creative Ireland (Longford), and Sam and Amelia Dennigan for all their support.
