Disney+ Percy Jackson Season 2 Ratings Plummet
Disney+ is facing some challenges with Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, according to new data. It seems like the second season is not performing as well as the first season, with a considerable drop in viewership of about 63%. While Disney has not shared any official numbers for Season 2, the lack of promotion and engagement is evident.
The data, provided by Luminate, shows that Season 2 has only accumulated about 483 million U.S. minutes streamed after three weeks, compared to Season 1’s 1.3 billion minutes during the same period. This decline translates to an estimated 11.2 million views for Season 2 versus 31.5 million for Season 1.
One possible reason for the drop in viewership could be the two-year gap between seasons, causing younger viewers to lose interest. Additionally, the show may have failed to expand beyond its core book-reader audience. The decline in engagement is more significant than usual despite Season 2’s December release.
Disney has already renewed Percy Jackson and the Olympians for Season 3, which will be based on the third book in Rick Riordan’s series, “The Titan’s Curse.” However, the long-term success of the adaptation may hinge on its ability to reverse the current downward trend.
Luminate, an independent entertainment data and analytics company, provided this viewership data. Their estimates are widely used by studios and trade outlets like THR, Variety, and Deadline, providing valuable insights into U.S. streaming viewership. We will have to wait for Nielsen to reveal their official data to get a more complete picture of Season 2’s performance.
