Homeowner shares photo of intrusive ad on new fridge

Advertisements seem to be popping up everywhere these days, from billboards on the highway to now even on our beloved home appliances. A Reddit user recently shared a photo of their smart fridge, showing an ad for an Apple TV+ show called “Pluribus” displayed on the screen. Understandably, they were taken aback and questioned how to disable these intrusive ads, even considering returning the fridge for a more traditional one.

In response to these concerns, a representative from Samsung Electronics America clarified that the fridge model shown in the photo does not match their existing models. Samsung’s ad strategy involves promoting their own products through a pilot widget at the bottom of the screen, alongside helpful information like weather updates and calendars. This system is intended to be unobtrusive, similar to a smartphone lock screen.

While it’s possible that a similar model is sold in the United Kingdom, Samsung UK has not yet confirmed whether these particular ads were authorized. It’s reassuring to know that manufacturers are listening to customer feedback and working to ensure that ads on home appliances remain relevant and non-intrusive.

Keep an eye out for future developments in smart home technology, and remember that your feedback as a consumer plays a key role in shaping these innovations. In the meantime, let’s hope that marketers don’t start beaming ads directly into our minds anytime soon!
