Woman Facing Charges for Hit-and-Run and Fatal Livestreamed Accident

A woman in Zion, Illinois, was recently arrested on charges of reckless homicide and aggravated use of an electronic communication device after allegedly driving and livestreaming on TikTok, leading to a fatal accident last month. Tynesha McCarty-Wroten, 43, struck and killed Darren Lucas, 59, as he was heading home from work. In the aftermath, she claimed she thought the traffic light was green, but evidence showed it was red.

Although McCarty-Wroten cooperated with authorities, she declined to allow them to search her cellphone. At the time of the crash, she had an 8-year-old in the vehicle with her, and both were unharmed, declining medical assistance. Following the incident, members of the public alerted investigators to a TikTok video that showed McCarty-Wroten livestreaming while driving, leading to her arrest.

Currently, McCarty-Wroten is being held without bond, as confirmed by online jail records. An attorney representing her has not provided any comments on the case. The victim, Lucas, was employed at Torres Fresh Market, and his colleagues expressed devastation over his tragic passing. The incident has caused great sorrow within the local community.
